Last name is pronounced as 'Fires'... Graduated from Deerfield Beach H.S., which is a northern suburb of Miami, Fla., in 2003... would attend two community colleges in Cumberland County (KY) and Broward Community (FL) before settling in at Nova Southeastern University... While at Nova, led the nation with 145 strikeouts in 108.2 innings in his senior season of 2009... Drafted in the 22nd round of the 2009 draft by Milwaukee, just two rounds behind his collegiate teammate J.D. Martinez, who was taken by Houston in the 20th round...signed by Brewers scout Charlie Sullivan... Was arbitration eligible for the first time this offseason...is signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2017 campaign.
