Graduated from Rio Grande School in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2009... attended El Dorado High School before transferring to Rio Grande for his senior year...was selected by the Marlins in the 44th round of the 2009 draft but did not sign, opting to attend New Mexico Junior College...Pitched in 10 games during his freshman season at New Mexico Junior College, allowing 18 earned runs in 11.1 innings (14.29 ERA)...Transferred to Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz. for his sophomore season...made 23 appearances, posting a 1.18 ERA (5ER/38IP) with 67 strikeouts and 22 walks...Was drafted by Philadelphia in the seventh round of the 2011 draft...signed by Phillies scout Brad Holland...His brother Josh pitched in the minor leagues from 2005-08 with the Rangers organization...his wife Estela was a pitcher on the University of Arizona softball team...Has been on the Advisory Board of the Taylor Hooton Foundation for the past two seasons (2015-16)...the foundation is named in the memory of Taylor E. Hooton, a 17-year-old high school baseball player who took his own life in 2003...the foundation is dedicated to the awareness and prevention of PED use among middle school, high school and college athletes...Was acquired by Houston from Philadelphia in a seven-player trade in December of 2015...is signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2017 season. Ken and his wife Estela reside in Phoenix, Ariz., in the offseason with their son, Brody.

In what was his first season in an Astros uniform, set a career-high in strikeouts (102), becoming the sixth reliever in Astros history with a 100-strikeout season, and the first since RHP Brad Lidge fanned 104 in 2006... tied a career high and led the Astros with 69 appearances...tied a career high in saves, which also tied for the club lead...posted a 13.98 strikeouts per 9.0 innings ratio (102SO/65.2IP), which ranked fifth in club history by a reliever for a single season...the only other relievers in club history to post higher single-season marks were LHP Billy Wagner (1997, 1998, 1999) and RHP Brad Lidge (14.93 in 2004)...ranked third among AL relievers in strikeouts behind RHP Dellin Betances (126) and LHP Andrew Miller (123)...ranked fifth in strikeouts per 9.0 innings...also ranked third among AL relievers in multi-strikeout games (34)...marked the most multi-strikeout games by an Astros reliever since RHP Brad Lidge set the club record with 51 in 2004...opponents hit just .093 with five extra-base hits off his slider...also recorded 84 of his 102 strikeouts via the pitch (80.8%)...ranked fifth among Major League relievers in average fastball velocity (97.2 mph), behind LHP Aroldis Chapman (100.4), RHP Arquimedes Caminero (97.8), RHP Dellin Betances (97.6) and RHP Craig Kimbrel (97.3)...posted a 40 percent swing and miss rate, which ranked third in MLB (min. 100 batters faced) behind RHP Luke Gregerson (42.6%) and RHP Dellin Betances (41.1%)...his 16.33 strikeouts per 9.0 innings ratio after the All-Star Break (52SO/28.2IP) was the highest produced by a Major Leaguer since 1933 (year of first ASG)...was placed on the Paternity List for the birth of his son, Brody, on Aug. 12...activated from the Paternity List on Aug. 15...had a rough start to the season, allowing 12 runs over his first 14 outings and 11.2 innings pitched (9.26 ERA)...rebounded to go 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA (18ER/54IP), 15 saves, 86 strikeouts, 20 walks and 43 hits allowed over his final 55 games of the season (beginning on May 9)...struck out six batters on 36 pitches in 1.2 innings on Aug. 7 vs. TEX...struck out four batters in the 9th inning, becoming the first Astros pitcher with four strikeouts in a single inning since RHP Bud Norris on April 24, 2012 at MIL (3rd inning)...also became the third pitcher since 1913 to record 6 strikeouts in an appearance of less than 2.0 innings, joining Montreal's RHP Steve Kline (Aug. 17, 1999 at SF) and Boston's knuckleballer RHP Tim Wakefield (Aug. 10, 1999 at KC)...recorded nine consecutive saves from Aug. 9-Sept. 10...tied the longest consecutive saves streak by an Astro in 2016 with RHP Will Harris (June 5-July 5)...was the second-longest streak of his career behind a 13-game run in 2015...on Sept. 20 at OAK, earned his 13th save on what was his 26th birthday, working out of a bases loaded, one-out jam...became the sixth pitcher in club history to record a save on his birthday, and the first since RHP Ken Forsch did so on Sept. 8, 1974 vs. SD, on what was his 28th birthday...converted 14 of his last 16 save opportunities (beginning on Aug. 9)...ranked tied for second in the Majors in saves in that span.

Ranked third among National League relievers in ERA (1.80, 14ER/70IP), fourth in home runs per 9.0 innings (0.26, 2HR), tied for fourth in strikeouts (87) and eighth in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (11.19) in his second Major League season...was appointed to the closer's role following the trade of Jonathan Papelbon to Washington on July 28...in 24 games as the Phillies closer, went 1-1 while going 15-for-17 in save chances (88.2%) and posting a 1.71 ERA (5ER/26.1IP), five walks, 33 strikeouts and a .198 opponent batting average (20x101)...his 1.80 ERA was the lowest by a Philadelphia reliever since 2005, when LHP Billy Wagner posted a 1.51 mark...became the fastest Phillies pitcher to reach 100 career strikeouts (77IP) since RHP Brad Lidge (74.2IP)...recorded his 100th career punchout on June 23 at NYY (Brett Gardner)...posted the seventh-lowest road ERA (0.94, 3ER/28.2IP) among all Major League pitchers (min. 25g)...did not allow an earned run in 9.1 innings against American League opponents...made his first career Opening Day roster...went 237 consecutive batters faced without allowing a home run from June 23, 2014 to May16, 2015...had a 12.0 inning scoreless streak from June 3-28 that spanned 11 games...had a three-game winning streak from July 17-Sept. 12, which was the longest by a Phillies reliever in 2015...had a season-long 14.0 inning scoreless streak from Aug. 12-Sept. 22 (12 games)...allowed just seven baserunners over the streak (5 hits, 2 walks, 0.50 WHIP).

Finished 4th in NL Rookie of the Year voting... Among all NL relievers, finished 2nd in FIP (1.30), 3rd in WHIP (0.79), SO/BB ratio (5.82) & opponent's OPS (.450), 5th in SO/9.0 IP (12.61) and 6th in HR/9.0 IP (0.20)... Posted a 38.6% SO rate after striking out 64 of the 166 total batters he faced, trailing only Aroldis Chapman (52.5%) and Craig Kimbrel (38.9%) among all NL relievers... Became the fastest pitcher in Phillies history to record his first 50 career strikeouts, doing so in 35.0 innings (previous: Grant Jackson, 1967: 50 SO in 39.2 IP)... 39 of his 44 ML appearances were scoreless (89%)...
